Vinh, Diep, Long Vinh, 49 years old and Diep, 45 years old, both born in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, living in Germany since 1988 and Long, born in Berlin 2000.Their nature: Stamina, the hope for a better life, perseverance and flexibility Their goals: to make the best out of the situation, to improve in their profession " to develop and secure a good future for their son. Vinh came to East-Berlin in 1988 and worked as translator, until the Soviet Union collapsed and he consequently lost his job. He then had to develop new perspectives and a two-year retraining for interior decoration seemed promising for a the beginning. Unfortunately it did not lead to the expected employment. But Vinh was determined – he wanted to earn his own money! So he accepted a job in a cleaning company, where he has been working since. Apart from that, his son Long and his wife keep him busy. When they had the chance to participate in the Berlin garden project, all three of them knew: They want to be a part of it! For German eyes (and not just for them) the beds of Vinh and Diep seem quite exotic: Many of the Vegetables are unknown to us, others are not but the way they are cultivated appears rather strange to us: For example, pumpkins that creep around a climbing pole. Alike all gardeners, Vinh and Diep have many naturopathic advices and do not just cultivate their garden as a hobby and a culinary enrichment but also as a healing garden The cultivated vegetables and herbs of one owns, so they say, can simple not be outdone. That is worth the effort. The three year old Long has a different view on the garden. He is happy about being able to play with other children, without his parents supervising him. Besides that, he will soon have his own little bed and we should be curious about what he will start to cultivate. There are enough in the garden who set an example for Long. Let's see how his parents will react if the boy starts to grow Egyptian cooking herbs and Ukrainian flowers…because this is surely not to be ruled out! |
