Beekeeping in Intercultural Gardens

Beekeeping is an ancient craft, known to all cultures. It’s a contribution to nature preservation and offers many possibilities for nature education.

In 2007, Stiftung Interkultur sponsored a “bee-project” for several months in Kassel. The participants, adults and children from intercultural gardens, learned the basics of beekeeping. In 2010, several intercultural gardens are keeping bee populations and harvesting their own honey: Perivoli in Berlin-Neukölln, Rosenduftgarten in Berlin-Kreuzberg, Wuhlegarten in Berlin-Köpenick, Internationale Stadtteilgärten Hannover, Internationaler Frauengarten in Trier and Internationale Gärten Göttingen. In Göttingen, they implemented a beekeeping teaching unit with support from the local beekeepers association and Stiftung Interkultur.
