Berlin-Kreuzberg › Intercultural Garden "Colourful Beds"The initiative Intercultural Gardens Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg exists since September 2003. It consists of a working group of 15-20 people, mostly living in this part of Berlin or working here, many coming from social, cultural or ecological backgrounds, though this is not a requirement. In September 2004 the first bushes and shrubs could be planted after the earth was exchanged. The garden project is located on the grounds of vocationally-oriented upper secondary school (High School Centre for Trade). The school ground is very big and not everything is used by the school itself. Parts of the ground are open for public use. The garden-group uses 1500 sqm. Each person/small group/family has a section for their own use and there is a shared lot of 500 sqm for diverse activities and uses in the middle of the garden. This place, which is centred by a pagoda is meeting place, party-place and exchange forum. ![]() The group got money in the beginning to gets things rolling and they built the pagoda, a fence, got good earth and bought tools. Water is on the garden-ground (pump) and they can use the nearby toilets of the school gym. |
